Another Win for LaShawn
by Matt Martino
The Olympic 400m champion continued his dominance this past Friday.
LaShawn cruised to a first place finish with a time of 44.50 at the Meeting International Region Guadeloupe in Baie Mahault on the French Caribbean Island. He led for the entire lap, winning by more than half a second over Andrae Williams (45.04) and African record holder Gary Kikaya (45.30). Last year, LaShawn also claimed first at this meet by running a blistering 400m time of 44.34.
His current 400m mark of 44.5o is the world lead. His April 18 200m victory time of 20.17 in Greensboro, N.C., is also an early season world leader.
Fellow Americans Dwight Phillips and Lashinda Demus also set world leads in their respective events during the meet.
