Because of his 400m performance last week, LaShawn was named USA Today's Olympic Athlete of the Week.

As reported in the newspaper:

LaShawn Merritt's 44.50 second 400-meters caught the attention of USA TODAY's Olympic Athlete of the Week panel.

The 2008 double Olympic Gold Medalist (400 meters and 4x400 relay) posted the best time in the world this year and was just .75 seconds off of his gold-medal winning time at a meet in Guadeloupe over the weekend. For his efforts, he wins this week's award.
