LaShawn Enlists Help of Renowned Sprint Expert
by Devon Jeffreys
As he tries to refine his race heading into the upcoming outdoor season, LaShawn Merritt has enlisted the help of one of track’s elite speed coaches.
Coming out of the blocks strong in 2012 is import to LaShawn.
LaShawn has spent a great deal of time this spring at IMG Academies, working with Loren Seagrave, IMG’s Director of Speed and Movement and a noted sprint expert.
"He’s a great coach," LaShawn said. "His knowledge of sprinting, biomechanics, efficiencies and technique makes him a great coach. He’s deep with it."
After spending most of his life training in cooler conditions in Virginia and Atlanta, LaShawn was ready for a change this year. IMG’s Performance Institute, where LaShawn has been training with Seagrave, is located in Bradenton, Florida, where he trains under pristine conditions daily.
"I got to a place in my career where I’ve been doing the same event and working in the same program since I was 17," he said. "With IMG, I have a place where I can totally focus, have great weather, be able to train every day, have great facilities and have a coach who could take my talents to the next level."
