LaShawn Merritt to Run 200m

LaShawn is among the marquee names slated to compete Saturday at the 2009 Adidas Track Classic at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
The 2008 Olympic 400m gold medalist is the current world leader over 200 and 400m. LaShawn, however, will postpone the race of the season between himself and Jeremy Wariner in the 400m.
Instead, LaShawn willl step down in distance this weekend to only race the 200m, where he will face two-time Olympic medalist Shawn Crawford, two-time World Outdoor medalist Wallace Spearmon, and quadruple NCAA champion Xavier Carter.
The Adidas Track Classic is the third stop of USA Track & Field’s 2009 Visa Championship Series. The meet also allows athletes to acquire points towards qualifying for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final, held on 12-13 September in Thessaloniki, Greece.
