A Message for Bolt
by Paul Kingston

If Usain Bolt thinks he is going to run the 400 meters and take the world title as easily as he took those for the 100 and 200 meters, it's time to think again.

That was what LaShawn told the New York Daily News on Tuesday while visiting New York City. As the paper reported:

"I'm the best quarter-miler. I'm the No.1, reigning Olympic champion in the 400," said Merritt, who was at a photo shoot in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, pursuing a modeling career. "If you're going to come get me, come get me. But it's not going to be easy. ... As far as I'm concerned, the world record isn't out of my reach either."

The Olympic 400m champion went on to explain that his race has challenges that don't present themselves at the shorter distances.

"In the 400, you actually hurt, there's a point in the race where you're going to feel the lactic acid and you have to know how to relax and fight through it," Merritt said. "You have to know how to handle that. A lot of people can't."
