Fresh off his victory in Beijing, LaShawn received a special honor on Friday in New York City.
Along with Olympic teammates Angelo Taylor and Walter Dix, LaShawn rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. You can watch the actual event here, courtesy of the NYSE.
As Track and Field News explained, that was just part of the itinerary.
Also while in New York, LaShawn and friends appeared at the Friar's Club, where they were made honorary members. They also made an appearance on BET's 106 & Park television show and donated a pair of Olympic spikes to Oprah Winfrey's Dr. Oz Healthcorp Initiative Campaign.
FRIAR'S CLUB FUN
The New York Beacon reported about the event of the Friar's Club, which LaShawn and friends enjoyed immensely.
Olympic medalists Angelo Taylor, LaShawn Merritt, Shawn Crawford and Walter Dix were recently made honorary Friar Club members at a gold-studded celebration party for the fine young men on Thursday, September 4 at The Friars Club on East 55th Street where they shared a private dinner before joining guests at an invitational only victory celebration for these "four remarkable men for embodying the very essence of the American dream."
Michael Gyure, general manager, The Friars Club, presented the superior Olympic medalists with special certificates. "Our members are proud in having you join our star-studded roster." The Friars Club is a private club in New York City, famous for its risque celebrity roasts.
