Speed Work at 200m
by Matt Martino
In the first recent race featuring superstars LaShawn Merritt and Usain Bolt, LaShawn showed that he is a growing force to be reckoned with even at shorter distances -- a bad sign for rivals in his native event.
LaShawn, the 400-meter Olympic champion, ran the 200m event on Tuesday at Athletissima 2009 in Lausanne, Switzerland, challenging the 100 and 200 world-record holder.
Unfortunately, Virginia's finest came up short against Bolt, but still finished second with a time of 20.41 despite miserable conditions that included headwind and pouring rain.
Earlier this year, LaShawn ran the 200 meters in 20.07 seconds at the 2009 Adidas Track Classic in Carson, California.
