On to Zurich
by Devon Jeffreys
Just a week after bringing home two Olympic golds, LaShawn will return to the track for another epic showdown with rival Jeremy Wariner.
The two will compete this Friday, August 29th, during the IAAF Golden League’s Weltklasse Zürich in Switzerland. As described in the event release:
"In the men’s 400m, the newly crowned Olympic Champion LaShawn Merritt will affront his predecessor Jeremy Wariner (USA), who has dominated the event for a long time."
Weltklasse Zürich director Patrick Magyar previewed the event:
"The cream of our sport will compete in Zurich on Friday. We hope that, once again, we can live up to our reputation as the Olympics on one night."
RIVALRY CONTINUES
Lashawn’s victory over Wariner in the 400 in Beijing broke a two-race winning streak for Wariner and gave LaShawn victories in three of the last five meetings between the two rivals. One of LaShawn's two losses, in Rome was a photo finish.
The 400m takes place at 12:20 PM PST on Friday. Results can be found at:
